PROFESSIONAL GIS (ARC/INFO)

ARC/INFO Half-Day General Introduction

The standard ACT GIS ARC/INFO® Professional GIS Training Course is unique. It is tailored to your needs, teaching topics your staff requires in a "Display First" order of importance and, when feasible or in parallel, using your data for exercises. It introduces most ARC/INFO® modules and is offered in the UNIX or Windows NT Environments.

The course begins with a half-day general introduction, presenting a brief summary of GIS concepts to staff, managers, and administrators. (Up to 250 people have attended).

All-Inclusive ARC/INFO Self-Demo

The reverse display first sequence works because students participate in an all-inclusive four-hour self-demo the first day. This introduces them to automation, attribute handling, the system editor, display, analysis, TIN, and AML™. When display in ARCPLOT™ requires codes for display and the system editor for legends, they have already used both several times.

Unique ARC/INFO Training Approach

The uniqueness of the ACT GIS approach is the result of teaching the course in reverse sequence (display first versus automation first). Today, most agencies contract with a data conversion vendor to automate their database, or they acquire their initial database from existing data sources. This means that learning to use the data is the most critical topic, with display being the primary need of about 80% of all users. Thus, the ACT GIS course starts with map display and continues in reverse order according to the next most prevalent need.

ACT GIS training is a "One Stop Shop!" where multiple ARC/INFO® modules and products are introduced: ARC/INFO®, Network, TIN, COCO, and GRID, as well as AML™, Formedit, INFO, ArcView®, and ArcTools™.

ARC/INFO Topics are presented in a General-to-Advanced Order

ACT GIS’s Automation-Last Sequence allows "Application-Only" users to leave after their topics have been taught (i.e. users attend only those sessions relevant to their needs). This tactic optimizes time and productivity management for attendees.
An ideal student/teacher ratio then exists when the more detailed automation sessions are presented for those needing to monitor/manage/update the database.

PROFESSIONAL GIS (ADDITIONAL PROPRIETARY COURSES)

ARC Macro Language (AML)

ACT GIS teaches Arc Macro Language (AML™) Programming for application developers and ARC/INFO® users who want to increase work group productivity while maintaining standardization of output products/databases. This course is taught as a case study where an efficient application is incrementally produced.

UNIX

A two-day Introduction to UNIX is offered, with particular emphasis on UNIX to PC program porting considerations, as well as the use of ARC/INFO® in the UNIX environment.

GRID

This three-day, hands-on course employs a project approach to ensure that students become familiar with the most widely used Grid tools. Lab exercises also draw on many of the advanced features. The course can be extended to four or five days to include client-specific application instruction.

Advanced Arc/Info

This one-week class is presented as a structured workshop. While particular advanced topics are presented, time is allowed for ad hoc flexibility to assure we address topics that meet a client's current project requirements.

Modules

This one-week class allows a client to choose from a menu of Arc/Info extension modules, (i.e. GRID, Network, Tin, etc.) and focus on efficiently learning specific capabilities in a compressed time frame.
